Therapy Services

Drama and compassion-based creative arts therapies.

Adults

Compass Therapies has, at its heart, the innate capacity to respond to individual needs with care, compassion, empathy and creativity.  Sessions may take the shape of talking, creative activities or more direct practical coaching depending on what is required.

Compass Therapies offers:

mindfulness training and awareness to better enable people to connect with their core beliefs and inner resources

a compassionate, calm and creative space to reflect

a place to safely discover and address unconscious thoughts and beliefs

a moment to breathe and connect body, mind and spirit

the opportunity to examine, challenge and ultimately transform any self-defeating beliefs

I have a whole-person centred approach and meet clients where they are on their journey with open, kind and non-judgmental attention.

Sessions are usually 1:1, however it may sometimes feel appropriate to bring in partners or other family members to support relationships, interactions, growth and development.

Children

Drama and compassion-based creative arts therapies assist children to express, explore and untangle difficult feelings and situations such as:

bullying

loss

abuse

trauma

anxiety and general worries

Experiencing overwhelming emotions (both stimulating and tricky) can lead to challenging behaviours that may include:

disturbed sleep

poor concentration

angry or upsetting outbursts

a deficit in positive communication

withdrawal

poor self-esteem and feelings of low self-worth

This list is clear in its definitions, but not so clear when we try to make sense of those feelings.  Drama and compassion-based creative arts therapies offer the space to explore and work through those feelings and emotions in a safe and non-judgmental place with a trusted therapist.

Children can be assisted with behaviour strategies, self-regulation techniques and I work with parents, carers and schools to engender a sense of openness and transparency that supports the development of relationship and nurture for all involved.

Sessions can take place in school or out of school and can be 1:1 or include family and relationship work as necessary.  Short-term or longer-term are both available depending on need following regular assessments.

Families / Parenting

Family therapy / parenting support is becoming more requested and necessary to explore relationships, communication and behavioural management as our way of life changes and evolves in the fast paced, pressured and developing world in which we live.

Often it can be more valuable and essential for parents and carers to understand what is happening to their children and to discover new techniques, strategies and ways of supporting them.  This may mean parents and carers adapting their ways of understanding, reacting and responding to various challenging presenting behaviours.  This is a daunting and difficult task.  It is hard being a parent, something I can empathise with and understand.  I naturally give great care and attention to parents and carers as well as to their young people within drama and compassion-based creative arts family and parenting support.

Young people are processing and trying to make sense of an endless number of life challenges at any one time.  Drama and compassion-based creative arts therapies can offer just the right space and time to explore, challenge, acknowledge and try to make sense of their world and who and how they would like to be in it.

Compass therapies allows young people a reflective space without demand, pressure or expectation to identify how they organise experiences, understand habitual patterns of behaviours and open them to feeling more skilful with their presence in the world.

Sessions can be 1:1, in groups or with people in their lives who matter to them and with whom they would like to travel on their therapy journey.  Packages are available for shorter and longer-term support with a robust reviewing, monitoring and assessment  process.
